Natural stones, although dense and hard, can sometimes break and need attention. Floor tiles will eventually pit and “open up,” sometimes in the form of the larger voids in the surface. Travertine and Saturnia surfaces commonly have a presence of fill in them already from the factory when produced. Over time this fill sometimes cracks or breaks – and sometimes even new holes arise.
